India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed the country’s strong desire to host the 2036 Olympic Games, showcasing its growing sporting aspirations. Speaking at the 72nd National Volleyball Championship’s virtual inaugural ceremony, PM Modi highlighted India’s successful track record in hosting major global sporting events over the past decade. Notable events include the U-17 FIFA World Cup, the Hockey World Cup, and significant chess tournaments held in various cities.
PM Modi also mentioned India’s preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and its relentless efforts to secure the hosting rights for the 2036 Olympics. Stressing the significance of volleyball, the Prime Minister described it as a game that fosters team spirit and cooperation, emphasizing the players’ commitment to the mantra ‘Team First.’ He underscored volleyball’s essence as a sport of balance and unity, where individual skills contribute to the collective goal of victory.
Highlighting the ongoing 72nd National Volleyball Tournament, scheduled from January 4 to 11, PM Modi noted the participation of over 1,000 players from 58 teams representing various states and institutions across India. The tournament aims to showcase high levels of competition, sportsmanship, and talent within Indian volleyball. Additionally, it reinforces the city’s reputation as a prominent host for national events, aligning with its role in promoting cultural and sporting initiatives on a significant scale.
