The leaders highlighted the importance of the World Trade Organization in global trade governance and stressed the need for comprehensive reforms to enhance its effectiveness.
Closer economic ties between India and the EU are deemed crucial amidst global uncertainties and disruptions to foster growth, job creation, and sustainable supply chains. Both sides are dedicated to fully implementing the FTA and are working towards finalizing negotiations on an Investment Protection Agreement and an Agreement on Geographical Indications. They are also focusing on enhancing bilateral investments and promoting private sector engagement in key value chains.
India and the EU, recognizing their strengths in technology, plan to enhance collaboration across the value chain, integrating research, innovation, and business activities. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the India-EU Trade and Technology Council as a pivotal platform for addressing trade, technology, and economic security issues. They aim to strengthen cooperation in promoting Digital Public Infrastructure and advancing joint initiatives in emerging technologies and innovation.
Moreover, the leaders pledged to accelerate cooperation in clean energy transition and resilience within the framework of the EU-India Clean Energy and Climate Partnership. They welcomed initiatives like the India–EU Task Force on Green Hydrogen and the upcoming India-EU Wind Business Summit. Efforts will also focus on improving regional connectivity, fostering commercial opportunities, and advancing joint projects under the India-EU Connectivity Partnership.
Council President Costa and Commission President von der Leyen expressed support for the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi and emphasized outcome-oriented cooperation. The leaders highlighted the India–EU Business Forum as a platform for encouraging private sector investments and driving closer trade and investment relations through new business initiatives.
