India and Hungary recently conducted their 11th round of Foreign Office Consultations, covering various areas of cooperation such as green energy, trade, defense, science, technology, space, water management, pharmaceuticals, sports, connectivity, education, and culture. The meeting was co-chaired by Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs, Sibi George, and Hungarian State Secretary Boglarka Illes.
During the consultations, both sides reviewed a wide range of engagements, including political affairs, trade, defense, science, technology, green energy, water management, pharmaceuticals, space, sports, connectivity, education, and cultural ties. They also delved into regional and global issues of mutual interest, focusing on Europe, the Indo-Pacific region, and multilateral reforms, aiming to strengthen their ties further.
In previous discussions, India and Hungary explored avenues to enhance their bilateral partnership and cooperation within the framework of the India-EU Strategic Partnership. The discussions involved India’s Ambassador to Hungary, Anshuman Gaur, and Barna Pal Zsigmond, Deputy Minister and Parliamentary State Secretary at Hungary’s Ministry of European Union Affairs.
The relationship between India and Hungary has been characterized as close, friendly, multifaceted, and substantive. Hungary acknowledges India’s historical support during the 1956 uprising, highlighting New Delhi’s intervention with the Soviet Union that saved the life of Arpad Goncz, who later served as Hungary’s President. The Indian Embassy in Hungary notes that Hungary values India’s ancient culture, spiritual traditions, academic excellence, and scientific prowess, particularly in the knowledge sector.
