India and Israel have emphasized technology and innovation in their recent meetings, aligning with India’s goal of establishing a $500 billion electronics manufacturing sector by 2030–31. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have upgraded their relationship to a ‘Special Strategic Partnership for Peace, Innovation, and Prosperity,’ showcasing the close ties between the two nations. This move signifies a shared vision for economic and technological advancements.
During the visit, 17 bilateral agreements, MoUs, and declarations were announced, covering various sectors such as manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, digital payments, space, agriculture, education, and defense. Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), highlighted the synergy between Israel’s expertise in AI, semiconductors, and deep technology and India’s manufacturing capabilities and industrial aspirations.
The Special Strategic Partnership establishes a solid framework for enhancing technology cooperation between India and Israel. Israel is renowned for its prowess in AI, semiconductor design, cybersecurity, and advanced technologies, while India has emerged as the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer and a significant player in electronics production. India’s initiatives like the Production-Linked Incentive schemes and the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme have bolstered its electronics manufacturing sector.
The new agreements, including collaboration in Critical and Emerging Technologies, the Tech-Gateway Initiative, and joint efforts in Artificial Intelligence, pave the way for joint research and development, design partnerships, technology validation, and manufacturing expansion. These initiatives are expected to propel India towards becoming a design-focused, deep-tech manufacturing hub, according to ICEA.
