India emphasizes international collaboration in emerging technologies, aiming to bolster ties with Global South nations in science, innovation, and sustainable development, as stated by Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh. The High Commissioner of Rwanda to India, Jacqueline Mukangira, invited Dr. Singh to the ‘Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa’ (NEISA 2026) in Kigali from May 18–21, 2026.
While expressing regret for being unable to visit Rwanda in person, Dr. Singh agreed to virtually participate and speak at the Summit, as confirmed by the Department of Atomic Energy. Discussions between the two sides revolved around enhancing India-Rwanda cooperation in various fields such as science, technology, innovation, atomic energy, digital capacity building, and emerging technologies.
Dr. Singh highlighted India’s increasing global presence in sectors like nuclear energy, space technology, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and digital governance, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for technology-driven inclusive development. The Rwandan delegation showed a keen interest in India’s expanding scientific and technological capabilities, aiming to deepen partnerships with Indian ministries, scientific bodies, and innovation platforms.
The talks also explored potential collaborations in research, education, innovation ecosystems, and capacity-building initiatives between India and Rwanda. Additionally, discussions touched upon the planned session for Dr. Singh at the Summit, focusing on nuclear energy deployment, AI, manufacturing partnerships, and arrangements for virtual participation.
The ‘NEISA 2026’ event, in collaboration with various international and regional institutions like the IAEA, UNECA, Nuclear Energy Agency, World Nuclear Association, and regional financial bodies, is set to take place at the Kigali Convention Centre. The Summit aims to convene ministers, policymakers, scientists, innovators, industry leaders, and stakeholders to deliberate on nuclear energy innovation, AI integration, manufacturing ecosystems, and energy partnerships for Africa.
