India has guaranteed six medals in the U-19 men’s competition at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. Participants Aditya, Sikander, Mausam Suhag, Devender Choudhary, Sagar, and Shubham Rajput advanced to the semifinals with impressive victories. Aditya started the winning streak with a 5:0 decision in the 55kg category, followed by Sikander and Mausam Suhag in the 60kg and 65kg categories, respectively.
Devender Choudhary secured a spot in the semifinals with a dominant 5:0 win over Indonesia’s Muhammad Rayhan Athaillah in the 75kg quarterfinal. Sagar and Shubham Rajput also shone in the 85kg and 90kg divisions, both achieving referee-stopped contest (RSC) victories. Despite some close matches, Ambekar Meitei Lairenlakp, Lokesh, and Loven Gulia narrowly missed out on semifinal berths in their respective weight classes.
With six semifinalists, India has already clinched six medals at the championship, showcasing the nation’s depth in age-group boxing. The tournament, ongoing in Jakarta from July 5 to 16, will feature more semifinal bouts in the days ahead.
