India has dispatched 20,000 doses of measles vaccines and around three tonnes of medical supplies to aid the Maldives government in enhancing its immunization coverage and protecting public health. This timely support from India aims to assist Maldives in tackling the rising measles cases and bolster the government’s response efforts. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the significance of Maldives in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and Vision MAHASAGAR, emphasizing India’s commitment to collaborating closely with Maldives for the benefit of both nations.
Maldives recently reported an increase in measles cases, with four additional individuals testing positive last week, bringing the total confirmed cases in 2026 to 15. The Health Protection Agency of Maldives advised the public to wear masks and seek medical assistance promptly upon experiencing symptoms like cough or red rash. It also recommended individuals with suspected symptoms to isolate themselves until test results are confirmed.
President Mohamed Muizzu of Maldives congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected PM and expressed the country’s eagerness to strengthen bilateral cooperation with India. Praising PM Modi’s achievement, President Muizzu emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations. In a recent meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Maldivian counterpart Iruthisham Adam, India reiterated its commitment to the progress and development of Maldives, underscoring the significance of bilateral ties.
