Members of the Indian diaspora in New Zealand are thrilled about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit, considering it a historic occasion as it will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in almost 40 years.

The community anticipates that the visit will bolster India-New Zealand relations, strengthen people-to-people connections, and give a fresh push to the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and broader economic collaboration between the two nations.

Several members of the Indian diaspora in New Zealand welcomed the visit, expressing optimism that it will create new opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchanges. They see the proposed Free Trade Agreement as a significant step towards a more robust partnership between the two countries.

The excitement among the Indian community in New Zealand is palpable as they eagerly await Prime Minister Modi’s arrival. People from various communities are looking forward to welcoming him, as this visit signifies a momentous occasion with an Indian Prime Minister visiting New Zealand after a gap of four decades.

Prime Minister Modi’s international engagements have instilled a sense of pride among Indians living abroad. His efforts in building relationships with countries worldwide have garnered respect and admiration. The Indian diaspora in New Zealand hopes for a stronger relationship between their home country and New Zealand, aiming for expanded business opportunities and a platform to showcase their skills and talents.

An employee at a restaurant in Auckland expressed immense enthusiasm over the visit, stating that the Indian community is eagerly anticipating Prime Minister Modi’s presence. The community is buzzing with excitement and energy, eagerly looking forward to welcoming the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Modi commenced his three-nation tour by visiting Indonesia, where he was welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto. The tour will also include visits to Australia before concluding in New Zealand. The six-day visit is expected to advance India’s Act East Policy and reinforce its commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

Prime Minister Modi is slated to visit Auckland on July 10-11, where he will meet New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to build on the progress made during Luxon’s visit to India earlier this year. Discussions will focus on expanding economic, trade, and commercial engagement following the signing of the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.
