Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary for Economic Relations at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), visited the Qatar Embassy in New Delhi to sign the condolence book for Qatar’s former Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Known as Qatar’s ‘Father Amir’, Sheikh Hamad passed away at 74 years old. India observed a day of national mourning with flags flying at half-mast to honor the departed leader.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju traveled to Doha to offer India’s condolences to Qatar’s current Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government and people of India and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s warm regards. PM Modi also expressed grief over Sheikh Hamad’s death, praising him as a visionary leader and a true friend to India.
Sheikh Hamad ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013, overseeing significant economic, social, and cultural development. He handed over leadership to his son, Sheikh Tamim, and played a crucial role in strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Qatar.
