India’s finished steel production in June reached 13.8 million tonnes, marking a 6% increase from the same period last year. The Ministry of Steel data revealed that during the first quarter of the current financial year, production rose by 5.9% to 41 million tonnes compared to the previous year.
Consumption of finished steel surged by 7.2% to 14.2 million tonnes in June, driven by demand from major infrastructure projects in highways, railways, and ports. Similarly, consumption during April-June grew by 8.3% to 41.6 million tonnes, showcasing sustained growth in large-scale infrastructure development.
In June, India’s steel exports spiked by 38.1% to 6,16,200 tonnes compared to the same period last year. The country’s crude steel production in June stood at 14.1 million tonnes, up from 13.5 million tonnes a year earlier. Additionally, export values in June rose by 43.5% to Rs 4,674 crore.
India’s total crude steelmaking capacity as of June 2026 reached 221.9 million tonnes per annum, aligning with the National Steel Policy target of 300 million tonnes per annum by 2030.
