India’s UN Mission building in New York was evacuated as a precautionary measure when a tower across the street showed signs of buckling, posing a threat to surrounding structures. The 27-storey building, housing mission staff families and offices, was cleared following a city evacuation order.
The issue originated at Pfizer’s former world headquarters, now undergoing residential conversion, where beams on the 21st and 22nd floors started to buckle, endangering upper levels up to the 26th floor. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all workers were safely evacuated from the area.
Authorities barricaded sections of 42nd and 43rd Streets, where the mission is situated, as a safety measure. Additionally, nine high-rise buildings were ordered to evacuate due to the potential risks posed by the buckling tower.
