An IndiGo Airlines flight traveling from Kuwait to Delhi had to make an emergency landing in Ahmedabad on Friday due to a bomb threat. The aircraft, with 186 individuals onboard, including 180 passengers, was airborne when a handwritten threat mentioning hijacking and a bomb was found on a tissue paper. Promptly, the flight crew took action following safety procedures.
The pilot, adhering to standard aviation safety protocols, informed Air Traffic Control and diverted the plane to Ahmedabad, the nearest suitable airport. Upon landing at Ahmedabad airport, security measures were heightened in anticipation of the aircraft’s arrival. Passengers were safely evacuated from the plane and relocated to a secure area within the airport. Fortunately, no injuries or medical issues were reported during the evacuation process.
Security agencies swiftly responded to the threat report, with the Bomb Disposal Squad conducting a thorough inspection of the aircraft. No suspicious items were found during the examination. Subsequently, a detailed anti-sabotage check of the aircraft was carried out by various security teams, including the CISF, dog squads, and airport security personnel. Additionally, all passenger baggage underwent screening, and individual security checks were conducted following standard procedures.
Throughout the operation, a significant police presence was maintained at the airport, ensuring security during the security checks. Flight operations continued with minor adjustments while the security checks were in progress. The timing for the diverted flight to resume its journey to Delhi remains unconfirmed at present.
Authorities are investigating the origin and content of the handwritten threat note to determine how it was placed on the aircraft. Based on the investigation’s findings, appropriate actions will be taken. This incident occurred amidst a series of recent bomb threats in Ahmedabad, with the city’s airport, courts, and schools receiving non-specific or hoax threats in recent days. Despite this, security agencies emphasize the seriousness with which every threat is handled to safeguard public safety.
