The death toll in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has reached eight following a situation where numerous individuals fell ill, allegedly due to consuming contaminated water in the Bhagirathpura area. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has taken action by suspending two municipal officials and removing a public health engineer from service in response to the incident. CM Yadav expressed sorrow over the tragedy and announced financial aid for the affected families and full medical coverage for all patients.
The outbreak, triggered by residents detecting an unusual taste and smell in the municipal water supplied on December 25, has sparked concerns about the city’s water safety. Three individuals passed away during treatment in various hospitals by Tuesday, with the death toll rising to eight by Wednesday. Local MLA and Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya visited hospitals to support affected families and ensure free treatment services.
Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari visited hospitals and criticized the Indore Municipal Commissioner for the incident, urging action against those accountable. The district Congress unit in Indore is anticipated to file a police report against the Indore Municipal Corporation and Mayor Pushyamitara Bhargava. Patwari emphasized the need for an investigation into the contamination, suggesting a poisonous substance might have infiltrated the drinking water supply.
