An inspector from the Karnataka Police’s CID has been arrested for allegedly masterminding a robbery in Bengaluru. The incident, which took place in the Madivala area, involved impersonating police officials to rob businessmen of Rs 20 lakh from Kerala. The arrested inspector, Mahesh Kanakagiri, was identified along with two other accused persons, Kupendra Reddy and Vasanth Kumar.
The police revealed that the inspector collaborated with associates to carry out the robbery scheme. The accused individuals targeted Kerala-based businessmen staying at a hotel in Madivala, where they used the inspector’s identity card to gain the victims’ trust before robbing them. Following the robbery, the suspects fled the scene in a police jeep parked at the hotel.
After the victims reported the incident to the Madivala police, an investigation was launched, leading to the arrest of one of the accused, Kupendra. During interrogation, Kupendra implicated Kanakagiri as the mastermind behind the robbery, prompting a search for the remaining suspects. The police also seized the alleged getaway vehicle and are conducting further inquiries to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy.
The businessmen were enticed to Bengaluru from Kerala under false pretenses of lucrative online trading returns. The investigation is ongoing to delve deeper into this aspect of the case.
