The investigation into the brutal sexual assault of a spa employee in Thiruvalla, Kerala, has expanded to include police personnel amid allegations of collusion with criminal gangs. The Home Department has initiated an internal inquiry following suspicions that certain police officers may have supported criminal groups in the town. Preliminary findings suggest that some officers from the Thiruvalla police station may have received regular payments from spa establishments.
Investigators are looking into whether police officers frequented spas in the area, including the one where the assault occurred, and if they provided unlawful assistance to the accused. The inquiry aims to determine if police inaction or silent approval allowed gang activities to thrive unchecked. Senior police officials have assured that strict action will be taken against any personnel found involved in misconduct or complicity.
The shocking incident took place on February 1 at a spa near Thiruvalla town, involving Maranam Subin, a KAPPA Act accused, and his associates. The gang demanded extortion money from the spa owner, escalating to a brutal sexual assault on the victim. The victim reported being threatened with a knife and subjected to a traumatic assault, which was recorded on a mobile phone by the perpetrators.
The victim revealed that a staff member at the spa was seen interacting with the attackers during the assault. She continues to suffer severe psychological distress from the ordeal. The gang looted Rs 25,000 from the establishment and fled, warning the victim against reporting the incident. Allegations of police assistance to the accused have surfaced, although the District Police Chief has refuted these claims, stating that the FIR was filed after thorough investigation.
Six individuals, including Subin, have been named as accused in the case, with three arrests made. Subin, a repeat offender with a history of criminal activities, had been released recently after serving a sentence under the KAPPA Act. Police have affirmed their commitment to pursuing the case impartially and diligently.
