Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi assured that the Strait of Hormuz remains accessible to all ships, except those from nations in conflict with Iran. Araghchi emphasized Iran’s commitment to facilitating safe passage for vessels, including Indian ships, and expressed readiness to assist those seeking secure transit.
Responding to comments from the US and China on Iran’s nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi reiterated Iran’s stance on the issue. He clarified that Iran’s policy allows all vessels to pass through the strait, except those from adversarial nations. Araghchi highlighted the importance of coordination with the Iranian military for safe passage due to potential hazards like mines.
Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s peaceful nuclear intentions, citing the 2015 nuclear deal as evidence of their commitment to a non-military nuclear program. He emphasized Iran’s consistent position of not pursuing nuclear weapons and expressed willingness to build confidence in the peaceful nature of their nuclear activities.
Addressing the regional security situation, Araghchi attributed insecurity in the region to US aggression and described it as a blockade against Iran. He expressed optimism that once hostilities cease, normalcy would return to the region. Araghchi mentioned collaborative efforts with Oman to ensure the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
