Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy reiterated that vessels must follow the routes officially designated by Iranian authorities when passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The warning against using unauthorized routes was issued through a statement on the IRGC’s official news outlet Sepah News. The Oman Maritime Security Centre had recently provided guidelines for ships’ passage through the strait in collaboration with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
Everyone is reminded that only the routes specified by Iran are approved for passage through the strait, with movement outside these routes deemed dangerous and strictly prohibited. In a move to ensure safe passage for commercial vessels, Iran, as part of an agreement with the United States, will facilitate this for 60 days without any charges. Additionally, Iran and Oman have announced plans to establish a joint working group to discuss the management of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has initiated an evacuation plan for over 11,000 stranded seafarers in the Strait of Hormuz. IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez confirmed the safety measures in place for the evacuation operation, which will be conducted in cooperation with Iran, Oman, and other regional countries. This operation follows a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, aiming to ensure the safe passage of vessels through the strait.
