Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan commended Punjab Kings’ captain Shreyas Iyer, suggesting that he is close to surpassing renowned IPL captains like MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir. Pathan highlighted Iyer’s remarkable feat of leading three different teams to the IPL final, a record unmatched in the league’s history. He noted that while Dhoni, Sharma, and Gambhir achieved success with a single franchise, Iyer’s versatility across teams sets him apart.
Pathan emphasized that Iyer’s leadership has been exceptional, leading Punjab Kings to the IPL final, although they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2025. Despite the setback, Punjab Kings, under Iyer’s captaincy, currently lead the points table with 13 points in nine matches. Their next challenge is against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
