Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi is set to visit New Delhi to participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting alongside External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The meeting, which includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, aims to strengthen cooperation among the Quad countries. Motegi will also meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit.
India will host the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, emphasizing the group’s commitment to promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region. The Quad, comprising India, Australia, Japan, and the United States, focuses on enhancing regional prosperity and resilience. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the importance of advancing Quad cooperation across various priority areas.
Addressing the media, EAM Jaishankar underlined the growing significance of the Indo-Pacific region. He noted the Quad’s evolution, starting during the Trump administration and continuing to expand under the current leadership. Jaishankar expressed optimism about the future of the Indo-Pacific, foreseeing increased energy trade and maritime activities in the region.
