The Jharkhand government has initiated a free residential coaching program for medical and engineering entrance exams for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in the state. Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the ‘Dishom Guru Shibu Soren Engineering and Medical Coaching Institute’ in Ranchi. The institute, established in collaboration with a renowned coaching institution from Kota, Rajasthan, aims to provide educational opportunities for tribal students in Jharkhand. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of discipline and focus for the selected students, highlighting the government’s commitment to the educational and social advancement of the tribal community. The coaching complex will not only offer academic infrastructure but also sports and recreational facilities for the holistic development of students. Initially, 300 meritorious Scheduled Tribe students have been chosen for admission to the institute, which operates under the Welfare Department’s supervision. The students will benefit from expert coaching, study materials, e-content loaded tablets, library access, and digital learning resources for their medical and engineering entrance exam preparations. The program, which includes separate hostel accommodations for boys and girls, is part of the “Jharkhand Scheduled Tribe Educational Upliftment Programme” to support talented tribal students who face financial barriers in pursuing professional courses like medicine and engineering. Eligibility for the scheme is limited to Scheduled Tribe students who are permanent residents of Jharkhand and whose parents are not in regular government service. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Welfare Minister Chamra Linda, Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh, and other dignitaries. The Welfare Department is also assisting Scheduled Tribe candidates in preparing for various examinations, including UPSC Civil Services, JPSC, and JSSC. Additionally, the government plans to introduce a similar free coaching initiative for meritorious students from Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, and minority communities interested in pursuing medical and engineering education in the upcoming academic session, with budgetary allocations expected in the state budget.
