Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren received legal relief as the Jharkhand High Court dismissed the FIR filed against him for an alleged Model Code of Conduct violation during the 2014 Assembly elections. With this ruling, all legal proceedings related to the case have concluded.
The court’s decision came after a thorough examination of arguments from all involved parties, with Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary presiding over the case. The FIR (Case No. 418/2014) against Soren was registered at the Adityapur police station in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, concerning purported violations during the 2014 Jharkhand Assembly polls.
Hemant Soren had contested the legality of the case, deeming it unsustainable, and had been awaiting a resolution in the High Court for several years. The court had initially halted proceedings in the lower court and subsequently conducted detailed hearings on the matter.
Upon reviewing the presented documents and legal aspects from both sides, the court granted Soren’s plea to quash the FIR, citing insufficient grounds to maintain the case. Soren’s counsel argued that the alleged Model Code of Conduct breach was unfounded and driven by political motives, emphasizing that Soren had only participated in campaigning for a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate.
Advocate Pradeep Chandra represented the Chief Minister during the proceedings.
