Jharkhand Police have apprehended four additional suspects in connection with the killing of Karni Sena youth leader Himanshu Singh in Jamshedpur, bringing the total arrests to nine. Various sharp-edged weapons purportedly used in the crime, such as a chopper, axe, bhujali, and knives, have been seized from the suspects. The prime accused, Vishwanath Mandal, also known as Bodra, is still at large, with a Rs 2 lakh reward offered for information leading to his capture.
The recent arrests involve individuals named Lakhindra Lohar, Jagdish Mandal, Vijay Mahanand, and a juvenile. Law enforcement authorities stated that Lohar’s active participation in the offense was confirmed through CCTV footage, resulting in his arrest. Following the directives of the newly appointed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), six Special Investigation Teams (SITs) have been formed to investigate the case thoroughly. These teams are conducting operations in Jharkhand and other states based on technical and intelligence inputs to locate the remaining suspects.
Previously, Neeraj Singh, the proprietor of Double Down Bar and a BJP leader, was detained in the Khatu Shyamji area of Rajasthan. Singh, who was arrested on Sunday evening, is being transported to Jamshedpur on transit remand. Authorities allege that his involvement emerged during the inquiry into the incident. The primary suspect, Vishwanath Mandal alias Bodra, has been evading capture since the homicide. A cash reward of Rs 2 lakh has been announced for information leading to his arrest, with a promise of complete confidentiality for informants providing credible details on his whereabouts.
The fatal incident occurred on the night of June 27 outside Double Down Bar in Bistupur, Jamshedpur, where Himanshu Singh was reportedly assaulted with sharp weapons and killed. Initial investigations indicated that the altercation escalated after Singh protested against the alleged harassment of women. The episode drew widespread criticism regarding the police response, prompting the Jharkhand government to take action against multiple police personnel, including the then SSP. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities intensifying efforts to capture the fugitive suspects and unveil the complete plot behind the murder.
