Jharkhand Police conducted coordinated raids in Ranchi and Palamu, seizing over 700 kg of illicit ‘doda,’ a raw material used in opium production. Three alleged smugglers were arrested, and cash along with a vehicle used in the operation was recovered. These actions are part of an intensified anti-narcotics campaign across the state.
In Palamu, acting on a tip-off, a special police team intercepted an SUV in the Manatu police station area, leading to the recovery of 216 kg of doda. Two individuals were arrested on the spot, and investigations revealed the contraband’s origin in Chatra, being transported to Uttar Pradesh for sale at higher prices, indicating an inter-state trafficking network.
In a separate operation in Ranchi, police discovered around 500 kg of doda and over Rs 2 lakh in cash in a house in the Namkum area based on specific intelligence inputs. One person has been arrested in connection with the case, with ongoing efforts to trace the supply chain and dismantle the larger network involved in the illicit trade.
Authorities are also looking into the potential involvement of “white-collar” operatives associated with the racket. Notably, one of the arrested individuals, Nizamuddin Rain, has a criminal record with previous cases under the NDPS Act.
