Srinagar, May 16 – J&K Lok Bhavan marked Sikkim statehood day with a celebration that united students, security personnel, and Sikkim residents in the Union Territory. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha conveyed warm wishes to the people of Sikkim during the event. He praised Sikkim as a beacon among Himalayan states and UTs, renowned globally for its organic farming, peace, and spirituality.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted Sikkim’s linguistic diversity and rich cultural heritage, emphasizing its unique position on the world stage. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for guiding Sikkim towards new heights of development aligned with the nation’s vision. Stressing the values of unity, compassion, and brotherhood, he underscored the emotional ties binding all Indian states and UTs.
Manoj Sinha lauded the J&K-Sikkim horticulture agreement of July 2022 for fostering collaboration between youth, farmers, and researchers from both regions. He viewed this partnership as a prime example of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, essential for achieving a ‘Viksit Bharat’. The Lieutenant Governor expressed hopes for Sikkim’s continued growth, praising its natural beauty, sustainable development, and organic farming achievements.
Sikkim shares borders with Bhutan, Tibet, Nepal’s Koshi Province, and West Bengal, also being near the Siliguri Corridor bordering Bangladesh. It stands as India’s least populous and second-smallest state, known for its biodiversity, alpine and subtropical climates, and hosting Kangchenjunga, India’s highest peak and the Earth’s third-highest.
