A Kannada language teacher from a Government Urdu High School in Chikkodi, Belagavi district, has been detained by the police over accusations of sexually harassing multiple male students in Class 10. The accused, identified as Srishaila Kumbara, faces serious allegations that have triggered strong reactions from parents and locals, resulting in a tumultuous situation at the school.
According to police sources, more than five tenth-grade students came forward with similar complaints against the teacher, indicating a disturbing pattern of behavior where academic favors were allegedly used to exploit the victims. The students claimed that Kumbara lured them with promises of assistance in their Kannada language exams and then subjected them to harassment in isolated areas within the school premises.
The uproar led to a group of enraged parents and residents gathering at the school, culminating in an escalation of tension that saw the crowd confronting and physically assaulting the teacher before law enforcement intervened. Responding to the unrest, Chikkodi police swiftly arrived at the scene to control the situation, rescuing the accused from the mob and placing him under arrest.
Chikkodi police have filed a case against Kumbara under relevant laws, with an ongoing investigation into the allegations. Additionally, educational authorities are set to examine the incident and take appropriate departmental actions in response.
