The Karnataka BJP delegation recently met with Bengaluru Police Commissioner, Seemanth Kumar Singh, to request the cancellation of an event backing Umar Khalid, expressing concerns about peace in the city. Umar Khalid, currently detained under anti-terrorism laws, is the focus of the event. The BJP delegation, which included notable members like Bengaluru Central MP P.C. Mohan and BJP State Spokesperson S. Prakash, emphasized the seriousness of the charges against Umar Khalid and urged the police to consider their request in the city’s interest.
The BJP delegation submitted a letter outlining their objections to the event, citing the ongoing legal issues faced by Umar Khalid and the potential consequences of glorifying him. They highlighted the presence of pro-Umar Khalid slogans and graffiti across the city as evidence of concerning support networks. The BJP expressed worries about the impact on public order if the event proceeds and emphasized that they would not take responsibility for any resulting law and order issues.
Despite their submission, the BJP criticized the Bengaluru police department for what they perceived as negligence in handling the memorandum. The party also shared videos showing graffiti in support of Umar Khalid appearing in various locations, featuring slogans demanding his release and justice. Commenting on the matter, Mohan Gowda from the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti strongly condemned the event, labeling the glorification of Umar Khalid as unacceptable, especially given his involvement in serious criminal cases.
