Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that a verdict on the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) will be reached following thorough deliberations in the Cabinet. He also pledged to address concerns regarding salary hikes and promotions. Speaking at the state-level educational mega conference in Bengaluru, organized by the Karnataka State Primary School Teachers’ Association, Siddaramaiah assured phased fulfillment of teachers’ demands, citing past recruitment efforts during his tenure as Finance Minister.
Highlighting the significance of educators in nation-building, Siddaramaiah emphasized the need for teachers to instill good values and provide quality education to shape a progressive society. He underscored the importance of preparing students to contribute to the nation’s future. Reflecting on the country’s literacy progress from 12-15% during Independence to the current 74%, he stressed the importance of ensuring education’s quality and relevance to societal needs.
Siddaramaiah acknowledged that educational challenges stem not only from teachers but also systemic issues like social disparities. He called for education to combat superstitions and discrimination, in line with the Constitution’s mandate for scientific thinking and rationality. Emphasizing the role of teachers in fostering responsible citizenship, he urged them to uphold constitutional values and promote critical thinking among students.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Minister Madhu Bangarappa, and other dignitaries attended the event alongside Siddaramaiah. The Chief Minister recognized teachers as pivotal in imparting rational and scientific education, essential for inclusive development and societal progress. He credited his own educational journey to the influence of dedicated teachers who shaped his values and beliefs.
