The Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes has issued a warning against the spread of unauthorized information and speculation regarding the Social and Educational Survey-2025 report, also known as the caste survey report. The Commission emphasized that criminal proceedings could be initiated against those responsible for spreading misinformation. It highlighted that the report was submitted to the Karnataka government on May 27 based on data collected during the survey.
The Commission highlighted that the Karnataka High Court had instructed them to maintain strict confidentiality of the data gathered during the survey process, as per an order dated October 25, 2025. To comply with the court’s directives, the Commission assured that measures had been implemented to protect the confidentiality of individual information and the survey data. It also mentioned that the government had been requested to securely store the submitted report to uphold confidentiality.
Expressing concern over the circulation of false information related to the survey data and report contents, the Commission clarified that no information from the survey data or the report had been disclosed by them. It cautioned against the dissemination of misleading or unauthorized information through media and social platforms, emphasizing that such actions could violate the court’s orders. The Commission warned that sharing such information could lead to criminal proceedings.
The Social and Educational Survey-2025 report is anticipated to have a significant impact on discussions concerning backward class welfare and reservation policies in Karnataka. Recent findings from the report suggest that Muslims constitute the largest community at approximately 14%, followed by Veerashaiva-Lingayats at 11%, Vokkaligas at 10%, and Kurubas at 8%.
