Karnataka Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, discussed various political and administrative matters during a media session at his Bengaluru residence. He touched on topics like the Tamil Nadu election results, internal political developments, the Sringeri oath row, and concerns about police housing infrastructure. Parameshwara expressed surprise at the swift transition of actor Vijay’s popularity into electoral success in Tamil Nadu.
He highlighted the unexpected impact of young voters seeking change and a shift towards an alternative to the long-standing Dravidian parties in the state. Parameshwara refrained from commenting on the decision to continue the alliance with the DMK, suggesting that senior leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge would be involved in any potential change.
The Home Minister also addressed the leadership situation in Kerala, emphasizing the normalcy of delays in decision-making processes involving multiple senior leaders. He expressed optimism in resolving internal differences within Karnataka without hampering governance. Parameshwara assured that despite delays caused by the recent elections, a resolution to pending issues is imminent.
Regarding a possible Cabinet reshuffle in the state, Parameshwara deferred any comments, indicating that such decisions lie with the Chief Minister and party leadership. He avoided speculation by refraining from offering personal opinions, drawing on his extensive political experience to express confidence in resolving ongoing challenges.
Touching on the Sringeri constituency matter, Parameshwara mentioned a complaint of vote manipulation despite BJP’s declared victory. He assured a thorough review before making any decisions and acknowledged the involvement of Congress candidate T.D. Rajegowda in the process. The Home Minister clarified that the current complaint is distinct from electoral issues and will be duly considered.
In addressing infrastructure concerns, Parameshwara discussed the state of the Halasuru police quarters, stressing the need for a formal request from the police department to initiate repairs. He highlighted ongoing efforts to address deteriorating police line buildings across Karnataka, ensuring repairs or replacements in a phased manner. The government aims to enhance housing facilities for police personnel under the Police Housing Scheme, targeting coverage for 80 to 90 percent of staff.
