Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced that the investigation into the alleged assault by a police inspector on women in Moodbidri has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The decision to transfer the case to the CID was made due to the seriousness of the allegations, as stated by the Minister during a press conference in Bengaluru.
The State Women’s Commission Chairperson, Nagalakshmi Chowdhary, along with the victim, provided detailed information about the incident, leading to the CID’s involvement in the case for further investigation. Immediate action was taken by suspending the accused police inspector once the allegations came to light, and a report on the incident has been requested from the department.
Parameshwara emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to uncover the complete truth of the case. He mentioned that the CID probe would not only reveal the facts but also determine if there are additional victims involved. The Minister also responded to comments made against the Congress-led government by Pranavananda Swamiji, stating that decisions are made based on internal assessments and reports, regardless of public sentiments expressed by religious leaders.
Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy had suspended Moodbidri Police Inspector Sandesh pending a departmental inquiry following complaints of misconduct towards women. The suspension order was issued after a preliminary inquiry by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) confirmed allegations of misbehavior, although the claim of demanding sexual favors was not substantiated. Sandesh, the suspended inspector, faces accusations of inappropriate behavior and making threats against a complainant.
Venoor police in Mangaluru have registered a rape case against the suspended Moodbidri Police Inspector P.G. Sandesh based on a complaint filed by a college principal. The principal accused Sandesh of sexually assaulting her between 2020 and 2023, adding another dimension to the ongoing investigation.
