Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao revealed plans for the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21. The theme for this year’s event is “Yoga for Health, Wisdom and World Peace.” The main program is scheduled to take place at the Vidhana Soudha premises in Bengaluru.
The state government aims to celebrate Yoga Day with the vision of “Yoga in Every Home, Yoga for Everyone.” The event will see the participation of around 5,000 yoga enthusiasts engaging in yoga sessions from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. It will be a collaborative effort involving various organizations, AYUSH colleges, and yoga practitioners.
The inauguration of the program will be done by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao are expected to participate in the event. Several yoga gurus, eminent personalities from Karnataka, international sportspersons, and film personalities will also be invited to attend the celebrations.
The state government, through its AYUSH Department, is working towards creating awareness about yoga at different levels. Programs will be conducted at the state, district, taluk, and rural levels to promote the vision of “Health for All, Everywhere.” Guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of AYUSH are being followed for organizing these programs.
Separate guidelines and grants are being provided for state-level and district-level programs. The AYUSH Department has initiated various innovative programs, including 12 national-level yoga competitions in collaboration with the Government Ayurveda Research Centre in Mysuru. The department has also prepared awareness posters to promote these programs.
A national seminar on the theme “Yoga for Health, Wisdom and World Peace” and a special program titled “Science of Yoga” are scheduled to be organized at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, during the first week of June. AYUSH Commissioner Sunil Panwar and other officials were present during the event.
