Kashmir University’s Vice-Chancellor, Nilofar Khan, has suspended Assistant Professor Altaf Ahmad Ganie for allegedly insulting a woman’s modesty and criminally intimidating her through social media. The suspension, effective immediately, follows a police investigation prompted by a female associate professor’s FIR against Ganie from the Kashmiri department.
The suspension, in accordance with University Statute 3.16 (2) and Regulation 12 (3) (IV), requires Ganie to undergo an inquiry while being attached to the office of the Dean Research. The complaint alleged that Ganie, along with another assistant professor, circulated defamatory and obscene content about the female associate professor on social media platforms, leading to the registration of an FIR at Nigeen Police Station.
Vice-Chancellor Khan has cautioned all university staff to adhere to the institution’s rules and regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
