In Edappally, Kerala, the St. George’s Forane Church celebrated its feast day with a unique tradition of devotees preparing chicken curry. This centuries-old Syro-Malabar pilgrimage center, popularly known as Edappally Church, attracts around five million devotees annually. The devotees, with spiritual dedication, chopped onions, stirred curry, and distributed the blessed delicacy to thousands of visitors.
Senior Congress MP Benny Behanan actively participated in the chicken curry preparation at the church, continuing a tradition he has followed since becoming an MLA in 2011. Amid the ongoing political buzz in Kerala, Behanan humorously remarked that while they can prepare chicken curry at the church, Chief Ministers are “prepared only by expert political cooks in Delhi.” The light-hearted comment drew laughter from the gathered devotees.
Behanan further joked that Kerala might not have a new Chief Minister before the church’s chicken curry is fully cooked and eaten, lightening the atmosphere even more. He reassured that the social media trolls mocking the delay in appointing a Chief Minister would likely quiet down soon. The certainty remains that the chicken curry at Edappally will be ready before the state gets a new Chief Minister.
