Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan is set to have his first official meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday. This meeting holds political significance as it comes shortly after Satheesan assumed office. Satheesan arrived in Delhi for high-level meetings with Congress leaders and will return to Kochi before heading back to the national capital for the meeting with the Prime Minister.
The upcoming interaction between Satheesan and PM Modi is eagerly anticipated as it marks the first formal meeting between the two leaders. While the agenda details have not been officially revealed, the discussions are expected to center around Kerala’s immediate development priorities, central assistance, and key state issues requiring the Union government’s intervention.
Earlier, Satheesan engaged in consecutive meetings with senior Congress leaders, indicating the party leadership’s ongoing involvement with the new Kerala administration. Starting the day with a meeting with Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, he also held discussions with Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge. Subsequently, Satheesan met with senior leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
During these interactions, Satheesan expressed gratitude to the Congress high command for their support during the Assembly elections. The discussions also touched upon organizational matters and the party’s future political strategy, as per sources.
Satheesan’s initial visit to Delhi post his Chief Minister appointment drew enthusiastic crowds at Kerala House, where students and supporters gathered late into the night to welcome him. The Chief Minister engaged with visitors, took photographs, and contributed to the celebratory atmosphere surrounding his arrival in the national capital.
Leading the Congress-led United Democratic Front to a remarkable victory in the Assembly elections, the UDF secured 102 seats, while the Left was reduced to 35 seats from 99. Additionally, the BJP re-entered the fray by winning three seats. On May 18, Satheesan, along with 20 Cabinet colleagues, took the oath of office.
