Kerala secured the top spot at the 4th National Armwrestling & Para-Armwrestling Championship, defending their title with the highest medal count for the second consecutive year. The championship, organized by the Armwrestling Sports Association Gujarat under the People’s Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI), saw Yuvraj Verma shine as the Senior Men’s Champion of Champions. Verma’s outstanding performance included victories in various weight categories, culminating in the prestigious Champion of Champions title.
Madhura Hassan claimed the Women’s Champion of Champions title by triumphing over K Lalhriatpuii from Mizoram. The event witnessed several remarkable moments and unexpected outcomes, such as 18-year-old Aabhas Rana’s surprising victory over the previously undefeated Mazahir Saidu in the 100 kg final. In the women’s division, Joshya J from Kerala made a breakthrough by clinching gold and defeating established armwrestlers Yogesh Chaudhary and Nirmal Devi.
Following the championship, Preeti Jhangiani, President of PAFI and Vice President of AAF, commended the talent displayed, emphasizing the sport’s bright future in India. The event showcased a mix of seasoned champions maintaining their dominance and emerging talents causing upsets, highlighting the depth of talent in Indian armwrestling.
