The Special Branch of the Kerala Police has issued an alert regarding potential political tensions in the state after the Youth Congress placed a wreath at the residence of State Health Minister Veena George, sparking strong reactions from the ruling CPI-M-led Left Democratic Front (LDF). Intelligence inputs suggest that the CPI(M) might organize protests against Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan in retaliation to this incident.

The alert raised concerns that Satheesan’s ongoing “Puthuyuga Yathra” could be targeted for protests, including possible black-flag demonstrations along the yatra route. Police warnings also mentioned the likelihood of protests at Satheesan’s official residence, private residence in Paravur, and his MLA office.

In addition to CPI(M) activists, members of its youth and student wings – the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) – are expected to participate in these demonstrations, as per the alert. Police have been instructed to increase preventive security measures and maintain heightened vigilance during the Opposition leader’s activities to prevent any potential law and order issues.

Responding to these developments, Satheesan accused the government of trying to intimidate the Opposition through what he termed as orchestrated protest actions. He acknowledged the right to democratic protests but warned against any attempts to disrupt public gatherings or incite violence, stating that such actions would be politically and legally resisted.

Satheesan emphasized that the Youth Congress protest was symbolic and criticized the ruling party for allegedly inflaming the situation to divert attention from governance issues. He affirmed that his “Puthuyuga Yathra” would proceed as planned and that he would not be swayed by threats or black-flag demonstrations.

“The government cannot stifle dissent through coercion,” Satheesan remarked, underscoring that the people of Kerala would recognize what he described as a politically motivated agenda. As the Assembly elections draw near and tensions between the ruling front and the Opposition escalate, security agencies are closely monitoring the situation. Police are expected to increase deployment along the yatra route and at sensitive locations to maintain public order and prevent any potential disturbances in the days ahead.
