A key suspect in the 2024 Delhi Diwali double murder case was apprehended after a police encounter in the Shastri Park area of New Delhi. The accused, identified as Amir, sustained a gunshot wound during the arrest. Amir, also known as Saleem and Tillan, is a 34-year-old resident of Vijay Park in Maujpur, Delhi, with connections to imprisoned gangster Hasim Baba.
This arrest is a significant development in the investigation of the high-profile double murder that occurred during Diwali celebrations in Shahdara on October 31, 2024. The shocking incident involved the fatal shooting of property dealer Akash Sharma, aged 40, and his 16-year-old nephew Rishabh Sharma outside their residence in Bihari Colony, Shahdara, while celebrating the festival with family members. Akash Sharma’s 10-year-old son, Krish, was also critically injured in the attack.
The entire sequence of events, captured by CCTV cameras in the area, revealed that two assailants arrived on a scooter. One of the attackers distracted Akash Sharma by touching his feet before both individuals opened fire on the victims. The motive behind the killings was identified as a monetary dispute, where a 17-year-old juvenile, a distant relative of Akash Sharma, arranged for a professional shooter to carry out the attack due to an unpaid debt of Rs 70,000.
Police efforts led to the identification of the alleged shooter, Anil alias Sonu Matka, who has a criminal history including serious offenses like murder and involvement in a major robbery. The juvenile suspect was apprehended shortly after the murders. The recent breakthrough in the case occurred when police received information about the whereabouts of another accused, Amir, leading to his arrest after a confrontation with law enforcement in Shastri Park.
During the arrest operation, Amir attempted to resist by firing at the police team, resulting in a gunshot injury to his leg. Subsequently, he was subdued and taken into custody for legal proceedings.
