The Assam Assembly elections showcased significant victories and defeats among prominent figures. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma secured a resounding win, maintaining his Jalukbari seat with a substantial margin of 89,434 votes. Noteworthy victories were also seen for BJP leaders like Pradyut Bordoloi, Vijay Gupta, and Diplu Ranjan Sarmah in various constituencies.

The BJP’s success extended with wins for Pijush Hazarika, Jayanta Malla Baruah, and Dr. Ranoj Pegu, among others. Leaders like Bhuban Pegu, Manab Deka, and Bhupen Bora further highlighted the party’s widespread support. Additionally, contributions from allied parties, including AGP’s Tapan Das, bolstered the NDA’s performance.

However, the elections also witnessed significant defeats, with Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi losing in Jorhat by over 23,000 votes. Senior figures like Debabrata Saikia and AJP chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi faced defeats as well. Congress candidate Meera Borthakur, Independent candidate Jayanta Das, and AJP’s Kankee Choudhury were among the notable losers in different constituencies.

The election outcome favored the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which secured 82 out of the 126 Assembly seats. In contrast, the Congress obtained 19 seats, while regional parties like the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) secured 10 seats each. The BJP’s victory ensures its third consecutive term in Assam, solidifying its dominance in the region and posing a significant setback to the opposition.
