The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has requested the “elevation copy” of a building registered under a company associated with Abhishek Banerjee, a Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member. This building, known as “Santiniketan,” located in South Kolkata, was utilized as Abhishek Banerjee’s residence, despite being registered under Leaps & Bounds Private Limited. The KMC authorities emphasize the necessity of providing the “elevation copy” to address the notice served regarding the property at Harish Mukherjee Road.
To justify their claims, the KMC authorities have specified that a mere response to the notice will not suffice, and the “elevation copy” must outline any alterations and additions made to the original structure of the building. An “elevation copy” typically comprises architectural elevation drawings that depict the vertical aspects of a structure, showcasing details like walls, roofs, doors, and windows from a specific viewpoint.
Notably, the KMC has issued notices to 17 properties linked to Abhishek Banerjee, requiring elevation copies to be submitted in response to the notices. These elevation copies are mandated under the KMC Building Rules, 2009, during the process of obtaining construction design approval. Such copies serve as crucial tools for the KMC to monitor any unauthorized constructions within its jurisdiction.
Since the Trinamool Congress government assumed power in West Bengal in 2011, opposition parties have raised concerns about numerous properties registered under various members of the Banerjee family. Despite allegations from opposition parties, including the CPI(M), Congress, and BJP, Mamata Banerjee dismissed these claims as attempts to tarnish her image.
