The cyber crime wing of Kolkata Police has apprehended Rajesh Chakraborty for disseminating objectionable videos featuring Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and BJP leaders on social media. Rajesh was presented in court and has been remanded in police custody until May 27 as per the court’s directive. The circulated videos, deemed vulgar and defamatory, were allegedly distributed on Rajesh’s instructions a few years ago.
Police initiated action following a complaint by BJP leader Priyanka Tibrewal, leading to the registration of a case at the cyber police station on May 21. Investigations revealed that the initial uploader, Partha Nag, claimed to have created and shared the video in 2023 at Rajesh’s behest. Rajesh allegedly compensated Partha with Rs 2,000 on multiple occasions. Despite evading the investigation initially, Rajesh was eventually arrested for non-cooperation and tampering with evidence.
Authorities are probing the incident for potential wider conspiracies and financial transactions. The ongoing inquiry aims to ascertain if others were involved in the dissemination of the controversial videos.
