The Lokpal of India has rejected a complaint alleging that BJP MP Nishikant Dubey acquired disproportionate assets. The anti-corruption body stated that there was no evidence against Dubey or his wife, who is not a public servant but an independent professional. The complaint was deemed unsubstantiated as it lacked concrete proof of corruption or illegal asset acquisition.
The Lokpal clarified that the increase in the value of Dubey’s wife’s assets was explained by income from known sources, loans, gifts, and market value escalation over time. It was highlighted that the complainant failed to provide material countering the explanations offered by Dubey and his wife. The Lokpal emphasized that the allegations questioning the professional income of Dubey’s wife were baseless and misleading.
Regarding the alleged disproportionate assets, the Lokpal attributed the rise in value to market escalation and explained investments through declared income, loans, and gifts. The anti-corruption body declined to conduct a broad inquiry into the personal and business affairs of Dubey’s wife, citing lack of evidence of wrongdoing. The complaint was ultimately dismissed by the Lokpal for being without merit and lacking good faith.
