Ahead of Republic Day 2026 celebrations, M. K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has directed the awarding of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Intelligence and the Chief Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Special Operations to 44 individuals for their exceptional service. The recipients, comprising 43 police officers from various State police units and one Special Branch Assistant from the Intelligence Unit, are being recognized for their remarkable contributions in intelligence gathering, operational planning, and successful execution of sensitive and high-risk missions crucial for internal security and public safety.
The Chief Minister’s Medals have been established to honor outstanding service provided under challenging conditions, particularly by personnel engaged in intelligence and special operations, who often operate discreetly and face significant risks and pressures with minimal public acknowledgment. Through these awards, the State government aims to formally appreciate their commitment and professional competence, while also inspiring officers and personnel handling intricate and covert assignments.
Each recipient will be presented with a 10-gram gold medal symbolizing distinction and a cash prize of Rs 25,000. The medals will be conferred by the Chief Minister during a special ceremony scheduled later as part of the Republic Day festivities. The selection of awardees was meticulously done based on their performance evaluation, the impact of their operations, and the level of dedication shown in safeguarding the State’s security interests. This recognition is intended to uplift morale within the police force and intelligence units, emphasizing the significance of professionalism, integrity, and vigilance.
The announcement of these awards has been well-received in police and intelligence circles, with senior officials appreciating it as a timely gesture that underscores the State government’s gratitude towards personnel engaged in demanding and often perilous roles. As Tamil Nadu observes Republic Day 2026, the bestowal of these medals serves as a testament to the vital role played by intelligence and special operations teams in upholding peace, stability, and the rule of law in the State.
