The Madhya Pradesh Congress unit has praised the Supreme Court for halting the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s ruling and maintaining Mukesh Malhotra’s position as a legislator until the next hearing. The Congress views this interim relief as a triumph for truth, justice, and the Constitution, emphasizing that the people’s democratic choice in Vijaypur has been safeguarded against political meddling.
The Supreme Court intervened in response to a petition challenging the High Court’s March 10 verdict, which invalidated Malhotra’s 2024 by-election victory in the Vijaypur Assembly constituency. State Congress President Jitu Patwari expressed appreciation for the apex court’s decision, highlighting the exposure of political motives through this legal process.
Reacting to the Supreme Court’s ruling, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Umang Singhar, remarked that the significance of the court’s judgment extends beyond an individual case. Singhar criticized the BJP government and the Election Commission for attempting to overturn the public’s choice in Vijaypur, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles.
Congress leader Vivek Tankha, who represented Mukesh Malhotra in the Supreme Court, was acknowledged by the Leader of Opposition for his role in the legal proceedings. Singhar concluded by stating, “Truth may face challenges, but it can never be vanquished.” The Supreme Court has scheduled further hearings on the matter for July 23, maintaining the status quo until then.
