Madhya Pradesh has procured nearly 100 lakh metric tonnes of wheat this season, making it the second-highest wheat procuring state in India after Punjab. The state has purchased wheat from a record 13.1 lakh farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), totaling over Rs 20,680 crore directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts. Farmers are receiving Rs 2,625 per quintal, inclusive of the Centre’s MSP and a bonus from the Madhya Pradesh government.
Adequate storage facilities have been arranged for the procured wheat, positioning Madhya Pradesh among the states benefiting the highest number of farmers through MSP procurement. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput credited Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s proactive initiatives for this achievement. Chief Minister Yadav has been actively monitoring procurement operations and ensuring proper weighing arrangements and facilities for farmers.
The original procurement target of 7.8 million metric tonnes was revised to 10 million metric tonnes by the Central government due to effective monitoring and sustained efforts by the state administration. Chief Minister Yadav personally conducted surprise inspections at procurement centers, interacting with farmers to gather feedback on payment processes and other issues. To further assist farmers, the procurement window has been extended, and measures like increasing weighing scales and extending deadlines for issuing weighing slips and payment vouchers have been implemented.
Procurement activities are ongoing six days a week to maximize convenience for farmers. The state government has ensured comprehensive arrangements at all procurement centers, including necessary equipment and facilities for smooth operations.
