In a move benefiting farmers, the Madhya Pradesh government has prolonged the wheat procurement deadline until May 28 for those who had reserved slots by May 23. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, on May 20, emphasized the government’s dedication to farmers’ well-being. Yadav addressed concerns about long queues at procurement centers despite slot bookings, ensuring wheat purchase for all successful slot bookers.
This year, marked as the ‘Year of Farmers’ Welfare’ by the state, aims for a record wheat procurement of 100 lakh metric tonnes, surpassing last year’s 77 lakh metric tonnes. With 91 lakh metric tonnes already procured, Madhya Pradesh is on course to exceed its previous procurement record. CM Yadav noted the state’s distinction in procuring wheat from the highest number of farmers nationwide.
Yadav reiterated the government’s pro-farmer stance, highlighting efforts to address challenges like global issues, storage constraints, gunny bag procurement, adverse weather, and transportation obstacles. He assured farmers of effective management of the slot-booking system to facilitate smooth procurement, offering Rs 2,625 per quintal for wheat at procurement centers.
