Hockey Madhya Pradesh has been a consistent performer at the Hockey India National Championships, clinching 29 medals across various categories in the last 16 years. The state’s success is attributed to its strong grassroots foundation, supported by the Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academies in Bhopal and Gwalior. Recently, both the men’s and women’s teams from Madhya Pradesh secured Silver medals at the 16th Hockey India Sub Junior National Championship 2026, showcasing the strength of its development pathway.

Madhya Pradesh’s well-organized grassroots and academy-based development system has yielded significant success at the Hockey India National Championships over the past 16 years. Notably, the state has garnered 23 medals in women’s events and 6 in men’s events, underscoring the effectiveness and dedication of its development program. The women’s program has particularly excelled, with the Junior Women team securing six medals and the Sub Junior Women team achieving 10 medals, showcasing consistent success at different levels.

On the men’s side, Madhya Pradesh has also demonstrated a strong performance, earning six medals in various categories. The Junior Men team secured two medals, while the Sub Junior Men team collected three medals. The Senior Men’s team, making its debut in 2025, clinched a Silver medal. The state’s success at different age-group competitions has facilitated the steady progress of players through the ranks, highlighting the effectiveness of its development system.

The influence of Madhya Pradesh’s hockey development system extends internationally, with players like Vivek Sagar Prasad and Nilakanta Sharma in men’s hockey, and Sushila Chanu and Ishika Chaudhary in women’s hockey, having developed or trained through the Madhya Pradesh academy system. The academy’s impact is further evidenced by players like Preeti, Jyoti Singh, and Monika Malik, who have been part of the system for an extended period, showcasing the broad base of competitive talent nurtured at various levels.

Madhya Pradesh’s structured approach to hockey development, focusing on early successes at the junior levels to groom talent for senior teams, has not only enhanced the state’s hockey landscape but also contributed to Indian hockey on a broader scale. The state’s academies have been instrumental in producing players who have gone on to represent India at the national level, emphasizing the significance of its development programs.
