A comprehensive door-to-door verification of nearly 9.86 crore electors is set to begin in Maharashtra from June 30 as part of a Special Intensive Revision exercise to enhance the accuracy of electoral rolls. Over 1,00,253 Booth Level Officers will be involved in this statewide initiative.
The state Chief Electoral Officer, S. Chockalingam, announced that political parties have been urged to appoint Booth Level Agents to support the verification process. Currently, 1,13,558 Booth Level Agents have been appointed by various political parties across Maharashtra.
In response to calls for transparency from opposition parties, Chockalingam assured that the draft list of deletions will be shared openly with recognized political parties at the assembly constituency level. Booth Level Agents have the authority to review these lists, raise objections, and contest any wrongful deletions before the final electoral roll is published.
The electoral revision process in Maharashtra has been tailored to accommodate ongoing census-related activities. It is scheduled to commence next month and conclude before the festival season in October. Key dates include the publication of draft electoral rolls on August 5, followed by a period for filing claims and objections until September 4, with the final electoral rolls set to be published on October 7.
