The legal issues for Malayalam rapper and lyricist Vedan have escalated as forensic analysis has confirmed that the tooth he wore as a pendant was indeed a real tiger tooth. This confirmation, obtained from a laboratory in Kolkata, has dealt a significant blow to the artist known for his mix of popularity and controversy in Kerala’s cultural scene.
The Forest Department is gearing up to press charges against Vedan, also known as Hiran Das Murali, for possessing wildlife items illegally, with potential penalties of up to three years in prison. It has been revealed that the rapper confessed to acquiring the tiger tooth from Thailand and importing it into the country.
In addition to the wildlife-related charges, Vedan is under investigation for narcotics. Authorities discovered around six grams of ganja during a raid at his residence in Tripunithura, along with a substantial amount of cash and multiple mobile phones. Vedan and his music group members have reportedly acknowledged using narcotic substances.
The recent developments have shifted the spotlight on Vedan, who had been gaining attention for his music and performances, especially among Kerala’s youth. Despite his growing popularity, his association with certain cultural circles and the perceived leniency from the Pinarayi Vijayan government had drawn criticism. Now, with the wildlife and narcotics cases unfolding, Vedan is embroiled in a serious legal and political dilemma.
The revelation that the pendant contained a genuine tiger tooth could mark a pivotal moment in a case that has transitioned from a celebrity dispute to a high-profile criminal probe.
