Mamata Banerjee urged all political factions, including left and right-wing groups, to join forces with the Trinamool Congress to oppose the Bharatiya Janata Party. This call came after Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal, marking the state’s first BJP Chief Minister.
During Adhikari’s oath-taking ceremony in central Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee commemorated Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary according to the Bengali calendar at her residence in south Kolkata. Following the event, she emphasized the need for a united front against the Bharatiya Janata Party amidst alleged post-poll violence.
Banerjee stressed the importance of unity among anti-BJP forces, including leftist parties like the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Left Front in West Bengal. She welcomed all parties, students’ and youth organizations, and NGOs to stand together against the BJP.
In response to Banerjee’s appeal, Md Salim, a Politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in West Bengal, quoted Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, highlighting the need for unity in challenging times. This move signifies Banerjee’s shift towards forming alliances with other anti-BJP forces following her party’s defeat in the recent state elections.
