West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the Election Commission of India for its special intensive revision (SIR) in the state. She accused the Commission of targeting individuals from religious and charitable organizations, including the Ramakrishna Math, Ramakrishna Mission, and Missionaries of Charity. Banerjee expressed disappointment over the deletion of names, including 300 individuals from the Missionaries of Charity, during the SIR process. She highlighted that even monks from the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission were not spared by the Commission. The Chief Minister alleged that the Commission focused on districts with high minority and socially backward community populations, resulting in significant deletions, especially in areas like Malda, Murshidabad, and North 24 Parganas. She also accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party in various constituencies to divide anti-BJP votes, emphasizing that the Trinamool Congress would support affected voters in reclaiming their voting rights through Appellate Tribunals. Banerjee vowed to prevent selective voter list deletions orchestrated by the BJP and the Commission.
